He began his academic career at Helsinki University of Technology (now part of Aalto University), enrolling in September 1995 and graduating in June 2000 with a Bachelor’s degree in Petroleum Engineering. Committed to advancing his expertise, he pursued a Master’s degree at Stanford University in the United States from September 2001 to June 2003, gaining advanced knowledge in energy systems, reservoir engineering, and strategic management

Following his education, Hwan built a strong professional foundation by working with some of the world’s most respected energy companies. His early career included roles at Schlumberger, where he gained hands-on experience in drilling and reservoir services, and Halliburton, where he further developed his technical and operational expertise in complex offshore environments. He later joined Saudi Aramco, one of the largest energy companies globally, where he contributed to major projects across the Middle East, strengthening his leadership capabilities and global industry insight.

Through these roles, Hwan developed deep expertise in offshore drilling operations, project execution, and cross-cultural leadership, managing large-scale projects in challenging environments. His ability to integrate technical precision with strategic thinking quickly distinguished him as a leader in the field.

In March 2006, Hwan established Drillnex Offshore Services and has since served as its Chief Executive Officer. Over the past 17 years, he has transformed the company into a leading offshore services provider, driving expansion, operational excellence, and technological innovation. Under his leadership, Drillnex has built a strong reputation for safety, efficiency, and reliability, positioning itself as a trusted partner in the global energy sector.

At 46, Hwan continues to lead with vision and purpose, focusing on sustainable growth, innovation, and the future of offshore energy. Known for his disciplined leadership style and forward-thinking approach, he remains committed to developing talent, strengthening global partnerships, and navigating the evolving challenges of the energy industry.
